You want to write to a directory where you have no writing permission. Make sure, for example using System Administration, that you have permission to write in this directory. You can also select a folder in Protos ('Extra' - 'File location' - 'HTML') that you do have permission to write to.

I am going to use Protos on a different machine. How do I do that?
PLEASE NOTE! First, secure the PAL-files when using a Classic version, or secure the protos.db when using a Personal version.
Uninstall Protos via Start > Control Panel > Add or remove software, then select Protos. To re-install Protos, your license code must first be issued. You can contact the Service Desk for this.
You can then use your license code to get an installation code from our registration page. You can now re-install Protos. If you are installing Protos Personal, you have to replace the previously secured protos.db with the new protos.db.

I receive the message that I am using an illegal version.
Protos is probably installed for another user, and you are logging in with the wrong name. In other words: Protos can only be accessed by the person whose login was used during the installation.

After typing in my installation code, I receive the message that my installation code is already in use. How is this possible?
You can receive this message for various reasons: - The installation code is valid only on the day you retrieve it. If you have already retrieved your code but not installed Protos on the same day, the installation code has expired.
- You have already installed Protos. This means the license code is already in use. In both cases it is advisable to contact Customer Support.

An installation code is requested during the Protos installation. How do I get it?
Do you have the demo version of Protos Classic? Your e-mail address is asked for when you download the demo version from our website. You receive the installation code, by e-mail, straight after downloading.
Do you have an official license? When you install Protos on your computer using a CD sent by us, you can request an installation code from the registration page on our website. In order to receive this installation code, you must first enter your license code. You receive this at the same time as you receive the Protos CD.

I have created a library document, and linked it to a process model. Now I want to link this library document to another process model, but it doesn't work.
It is possible to use a library document, which has already been linked to a process model, in a different place. This is done in the following way. - Link the library object from the library to the data window. The library object is now an object within the process model.
- Link the document by dropping it on the activity.
- To now link the library object to another object within the model, open the process structure window and drag the document from here to the required object. This is why we advise you to link the library objects to the process model at the main process level.

Is it possible to define an application in a data model once that can then be linked to various created sub-processes?
Certainly, open the process structure window in Protos for this. Then click the plus sign (+) that appears before the name of the (sub) process. All data elements and applications now appear, so that you can link them to every required object in every (sub) process.

I cannot fill in the 'Instruction' and 'Description' tabs for the objects. Why are these tabs grey and why can they not be filled in?
The text processor has not registered during the installation or upgrading of Protos. You do this in the following way: - Use Windows Explorer to search for the file ProtosEdit.dll op. (For example in C:Program FilesProtosxyz. This depends on the installation.)
- Open a DOS window.
- In the DOS window, go to the folder that contains ProtosEdit.dll.
- Enter the following command at the DOS prompt: Regsvr32 ProtosEdit.dll.
- You now see a message that registration has taken place.

The Euro symbol is not displayed in the 'Description' or 'Instruction' field in Protos. I have already tried using 'Alt Gr E', 'Alt Gr 4' and 'Alt 0128'.
To get the Euro symbol in the description, it is best to use the following method: Go to the 'Office accessories menu, 'Special characters' menu. Then select the relevant font, with 'Windows symbols' as subset. A Euro symbol should now appear amongst the symbols in the open window. If you copy this symbol to the clipboard, you can then copy it into Protos.
The problem has been resolved since version 6.1.2.

What is the difference between an exported process model and a copied process model?
For a copied model, the original model AND the copied model remain available for editing and so can differ from each other in content.
An exported model can be edited in Protos Classic or Protos Personal / Enterprise(with another database). In the original database, the model remains available as "read-only". To be able to edit the process model on the original machine again, the model must be re-imported and the history remain in tact.

When exporting my model to RTF, the last 2 letters of the descriptions disappear.
This problem has been resolved with the release of Protos 6.1.2. If you have not yet installed Protos 6.1.2., you can make the text visible yourself by moving the right edge line (on the ruler) of the table to the left. This has to be done for every cell.

When reporting to HTML, I receive the message: 'css.css not found'.
There are no .css files in the file location selected for the HTML layout. You can change the file location, or copy the protos.css to the chosen file location.

During the export to HTML, I receive an error report in the SQL script with a line reference. The export does not complete successfully.
You have probably included an incorrect symbol in the naming of a domain or process model. When you replace these symbols, the export to HTML will complete without any problems.

When I include a process model as a sub-process in a new process model, the hyperlinks are not included in the HTML export.
You have probably forgotten to fill in the label for the hyperlink. When you create a new hyperlink, you can give it a name. If you do not do this, and you then read in the process model as a sub-process, the hyperlinks are not included.
